Pulling Down Strongholds

Today's guest devotion is by Andrea Boeshaar, from: Be Still…and Let Your Nail Polish Dry © 2008 Summerside Press

Pulling Down Strongholds

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:4 (NKJV)

I believe that God uses the hidden things of life to bring us to Him, (or closer to Him), and to pull down our strongholds.

About 13 years ago, shortly after I became a Christian, I received a phone call from a man who wanted to help with the foreclosure of our home. Soon I discovered that my husband, Daniel, had been gambling away the mortgage money for months – and I didn’t have a clue. My husband was also an alcoholic. I doubted my marriage would last. I worried what would happen to my three young sons.

On my knees, pouring out my heart to God, I prayed that He would change my husband. Instead of changing my husband, God worked on me! As I prayed and prayed and worked at becoming a godly wife, my husband soon made decisions that honored Christ, which, in turn, changed his life and ours.

Today, Daniel is free from the bondages of alcohol and gambling. Jesus Christ set him free and pulled down those strongholds. Our sons saw the power of God in their father, which increased their faith.

Prayer is a mighty weapon that God uses to eliminate strongholds in our lives and the lives of those we care about.

Today’s Prayer: Lord, You said that the truth would set us free – Your truth. We’ll watch and rejoice when the strongholds in our lives come tumbling down.

Andrea, I didn't quite have that happy ending when I went through something similar. But the power in prayer was there nonetheless. The day i prayed for the truth, I had it. Then wished I didn't :) It's true we can't change anyone but ourselves but certainly God can (if they allow Him to.) Thanks for the devotion today.
