A number of interesting entries were submitted to the Middle Grade/Young Adult category, and the judges enjoyed reading them. But when it came to choosing the winner, they both landed on the same one without hesitation.
One judge said with conviction that this entry is the clear winner. The other commented that this story contains a depth of characterization and motivation while rooting the reader in the setting. Excellent writing that shows the reader what is happening, but is not over the top. The hero is not flawless, but likable and sympathetic. This story has excellent potential.
Let's congratulate the MG/YA category winner of this year's Novel Rocket's Launch Pad Contest: Boosting You Out of the Slush Pile. Namely, Kathrese McKee of Spring, Texas with her entry, Mardan's Mark.
Kathrese will be asked to provide the complete manuscript and a proposal, and once we've received those, she'll move on to the finals.
